Just how far could Edwin Valero potentially have gone?

Edwin Valero's arrest for the murder of his wife and subsequent suicide left the boxing world with many unanswered questions.

Obviously Valero's problems ran very deep indeed, deeper than even his harshest critics would have guessed. Many boxing scribes predicted some kind of tragic end for Valero's career, although nothing as repulsive and violent as the murder of his wife.

Supposing he had managed to control his addictions or get the help he needed though. Just how good was the Venezuelan puncher, and how far might he have gone if he got the help he so desperately needed?

Having won titles at two weights, Valero seemed to be heading for an eventual fight against Manny Pacquiao, having blasted Antonio DeMarco out in 9 rounds to retain his WBC lightweight title.
